{"id":2877,"date":"2018-02-14T14:46:00","date_gmt":"2018-02-14T13:46:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.jurati.de\/migration-law\/naturalization\/"},"modified":"2026-04-25T12:19:29","modified_gmt":"2026-04-25T10:19:29","slug":"naturalization","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.jurati.de\/en\/migration-law\/naturalization\/","title":{"rendered":"Naturalization"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p style=\"text-align: left;\">[vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=&#8221;Naturalization&#8221; google_fonts=&#8221;font_family:Lora%3Aregular%2Citalic%2C700%2C700italic|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Since the Citizenship Act was amended on 27.06.2024, you can be naturalized if you<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">have had your habitual residence in Germany for <strong>5 years <\/strong>,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">have a specific residence title<br \/>\n(naturalization is not possible with the following residence titles: Sections 16a, 16b, 16d, 16e, 16f, 17, 18f, 19, 19b, 19e, 20, 22, 23a, 24, 25 (3) to (5) and Section 104c),<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">have B 1 language skills<\/span><\/li>\n<li>have passed a naturalization test or &#8220;Life in Germany&#8221; test<\/li>\n<li>No significant previous convictions or preliminary proceedings<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the previous nationality does not have to be given up (<strong>&#8220;dual nationality<\/strong>&#8220;),<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">If you receive social benefits, naturalization is generally excluded (exception: full-time employees or hardship cases)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">German citizenship is no longer lost when a foreign citizenship is accepted (retention permit no longer required).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Since 30.10.2025, it is no longer possible to shorten the naturalization period <strong>to<\/strong> <strong>3 years <\/strong>in the case of outstanding integration, even if you have already submitted the application before then.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Spouses<\/strong> and <strong>children<\/strong> under the age of 16 can also be naturalized, even if they themselves have not yet been in Germany for five years.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The spouse of a German citizen<\/strong> can be naturalized if they have been legally resident in Germany for three years and the marriage has existed for at least two years.<\/p>\n<p><b> Children born <\/b><b>in Germany <\/b>after 27.6.2024 automatically receive German citizenship if at least one parent is a German citizen at the time of birth.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>has been legally resident in Germany for 5 years <em>and <\/em> <\/li>\n<li>has a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jurati.de\/en\/migration-law\/settlement-permit-and-eu-permanent-residence-permit\/\">permanent right of residence<\/a> <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u><\/u><span style=\"color: #000000;\">We will be happy to help you with the application so that it is as complete and correct as possible.
